Effective date: 13 June 2026 · Applies to Faktum for iOS and macOS
Short version. Faktum listens to your meetings, checks facts, and discards the audio. Nothing about your voice or conversations is stored unless you choose to save a summary. You are the customer; you are not the product.
1. Who we are
Faktum ("we", "us") is a mobile and desktop application for live AI fact-checking. The app is operated as a sole-proprietor product. For data protection enquiries, contact: [email protected].
2. What we collect — and what we don't
What we process (temporarily)
- Audio. Captured live from your device microphone. Audio is streamed over an encrypted connection, transcribed by a speech-recognition service, and immediately discarded server-side. We do not store audio files.
- Transcript text. The transcript produced from your audio is analyzed live (claim extraction, fact-checking, summarization) and then discarded unless you explicitly save a session. If you save a session, the summary text — not the audio — is stored on your device and optionally synced through your Apple account.
- Anonymous device identifier. A random UUID assigned to your device is used to track your usage quota (free-tier cap). It carries no name, email, or account information. It is generated locally and never linked to any third-party identity.
- Subscription status. App Store purchase receipts are validated by a third-party subscription service to confirm entitlements. No payment details are shared with us or any third party beyond Apple.
What we do not collect
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials (there is no sign-up).
- Stored audio recordings (audio is discarded after transcription).
- Location data.
- Contact lists, calendars, or other device data.
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA, etc.).
- Behavioral or tracking data for advertising purposes.
3. How we use your data
| Data | Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Audio (live) | Real-time speech-to-text transcription | Contract performance |
| Transcript (live) | Claim extraction, fact-checking, summarization | Contract performance |
| Saved session summary | In-app history; export at your request | Contract performance |
| Anonymous device ID | Usage quota enforcement; abuse prevention | Legitimate interest |
| Subscription status | Entitlement validation | Contract performance |
We do not sell, license, or share your data for advertising or any commercial purpose other than providing the Faktum service. The getfaktum.com website uses Google Analytics to understand page-level traffic (pages visited, session count). Google Analytics does not receive any audio, transcript, or in-app data.
4. Third-party processors
To deliver the service, Faktum routes data through third-party processors in the following categories. Each is bound by data processing agreements and its own security and privacy practices. We share only the minimum data necessary for each function.
- Speech recognition and AI inference. Audio is streamed to a cloud speech-recognition service for transcription; transcript excerpts are passed to an AI inference service for claim extraction, fact-checking, and summarization. Both discard content after processing.
- API infrastructure. Requests between the app and backend services are routed through a secure edge proxy. No content is persisted at the routing layer.
- Subscription management. App Store receipts are validated by a third-party subscription service to confirm entitlements. Only an anonymous identifier and receipt hash are shared — no payment details.
- Optional device sync. If you choose to sync session summaries across your devices, this is handled through your own Apple account. We have no access to that data.
- Website analytics. The getfaktum.com website uses Google Analytics (GA4) to measure page-level traffic. No in-app data, audio, or transcript content is shared with Google Analytics.
To request the full list of sub-processors, contact [email protected].
5. Data transfers outside the EU/EEA
Some processing takes place on servers located outside the EU/EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards — including standard contractual clauses — as the transfer mechanism.
Audio is discarded immediately after transcription. No residual content persists at any processing location beyond the duration of a live session. All data in transit is encrypted.
If EU data residency is a hard requirement for your use case, contact [email protected] before using the service, or monitor getfaktum.com for updates on regional availability.
6. Retention
- Audio: Discarded immediately after transcription. Never retained.
- Transcript (live session): Discarded at session end. Persisted only if you save a session.
- Saved session summaries: Stored on your device until you delete them. iCloud copies follow your iCloud account settings.
- Anonymous device ID: Reset if you delete and reinstall the app. Retained while the app is installed.
- Usage metrics (aggregated): Retained up to 90 days for system reliability monitoring. Metrics contain counts and error classes — never transcript content.
7. Recording consent — your responsibility
Laws governing the recording of conversations vary by country, state, and context. Some jurisdictions require all-party consent; others require only one-party consent. Compliance with applicable recording laws is your responsibility.
Faktum is designed to support lawful use: a visible indicator appears on screen at all times while the app is listening, and the app displays a consent reminder before your first session. These features do not constitute legal advice and do not replace your obligation to inform participants where required by law.
8. Children's privacy
Faktum is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly process data from children. If you believe a minor has used Faktum, contact [email protected] and we will take prompt action.
9. Your rights (GDPR)
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification of inaccurate data.
- Erasure ("right to be forgotten") — note that because we discard audio immediately, there is typically very little data to erase.
- Restriction of processing in certain circumstances.
- Data portability of data provided by you in a structured format.
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. Because most data is discarded in real time, responses to erasure requests typically confirm that no data is held.
10. Security
All data in transit is encrypted. Saved session summaries on your device are protected by your device's built-in encryption. We follow responsible disclosure practices and encourage security researchers to contact [email protected].
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as the product evolves — particularly when EU data residency is activated. Material changes will be announced in the app and on this page. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
